OPEN LETTER

Dear Mr. President!

In our last letter, which we sent to you in April, you predicted a serious institutional crisis in the European Union, which was later confirmed to our greatest regret. In June, the European Council, which brings together the heads of state and government, agreed on the framework budget and the recovery fund to help the southern member states, with the fact that neither one nor the other is tied to political conditions, e.g. to vague, undefined aspects of the rule of law.

We see that the European Parliament, with the assistance of the Commission, wants to overwrite the firm and clear decision with all its might, although in our opinion there is no legal basis for doing so. Leaving the framework of the "co-decision procedure", there are many signs that the Parliament wishes to have the final say on the above issues alone.

Although, in accordance with the Basic Treaties, the Council is the body that determines the EU's political priorities and the general direction of , today the majority of European citizens may feel that its authority has been shaken and its powers have been worryingly reduced. Accordingly, we ask the Honorable President to do everything to consolidate the position of the European Council and restore the dignity of the institution, especially in the next few days - keeping in mind the medium and long-term interests of the organization - thereby serving the interests of EU citizens and their elected leaders. , thus contributing to the survival of the European Union and the success of integration.
